This is a great book ... not just because it expands on the relationship between Amber and Trina, but because it brings to light the horrors of living in an abusive relationship.MaryLynn Bast showed the possibility of getting out of a bad relationship and how to find help in unexpected places and that blessings come in different forms ... whether it be a policeman or a stranger in a motel. You can learn to defend yourself and build your self-esteem back up. I especially liked the scene in the park! (I'm not going to throw a "spoiler" in here. READ THE BOOK, FOLKS!)
People who are abused are worthy of SO much more than they are beat down and made to think.

I read a previous MaryLynn Bast book and couldn't wait to start this one. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. We meet Trina as an unwanted and abused woman who takes her young son and runs away from her violent lover and controlling pack. As she is pursued, she meets Amber who takes her under her wing. We learned of Amber in A Justified Kill-she's lethal, self empowered and drives a Jeep Wrangler! With her new found freedom and the skills she is learning from Amber, Trina transforms herself into a strong, confident female. I urge you to read this book as you will enjoy it. I impatiently await the arrival of the rest of the books and can't wait to tear into the next one - Werewolf Bound.

What can I say, I love Trina! She starts out somewhat of an idealist, young and in love, but soon learns the hard lessons of betrayal and abuse. Once her cup is overflowing, she gets the gumption to spill the sugar and throw out the cream and take care of herself and her son. On her journey, attempting to get away and start a new life for her and her son, she encounters different individuals and learns new life lessons maturing from a naive scared girl into a woman to be reckoned with. This so far is one of my favorite shorts in the Heart of A Wolf Series and I certainly hope to come across Trina again to check in on how she is getting along. While this is a short novella and can be read as a standalone; it definitely is a complete story with a very satisfying resolution that leaves you wanting more.

One of the things I love about Marylynn Bast's Heart of a Wolf series is her novella's. She takes the time to share some of the back stories related to her novels. I like it for two reasons. The first is that I have read No Remorse and having more info on the characters fills the void between novels that drive me crazy. I am an instant gratification type gal and love to read a series back to back. The other thing I love about them is that they are a great way for someone to try a series without committing to a full length novel. I know most people are not like me and do not read 6ish novels a week. This novella is a complete story that you could read without ever having read any other works from M. Bast, but has a bit more depth if you know some of the back story.
One of the things I love about her wolves is that she is not afraid to hide their animal side and this book really takes a look at the darker side of many of the packs. Tina's tale is definitley not sunshine and roses. It is the tale of someone beating the odds and escaping abuse. This novella is neither a prequel or sequel of No Remorse. It takes place before, during, and after that novel. I am hoping we will see more from Toby and Dave in future books/novellas. Maybe she will see my review and get right on that hehehe.

I love this series. The characters are strong and smart. The do what needs doing. The writer keeps you engrossed with details and the storyline. If you have a chance read the series.

Mary Lynn Bast has a real way with words, able to drag you into her reality and make it seem so real
Trina and Amber become your friends and you feel as tho you are part of the story
